Susan Mazer to Speak at Environments for Aging Conference
Session will address the sound environment focusing on acoustic and organizational factors supporting the wellness of hearing impaired long-term care residents
March 8, 2010 –
March 8, 2010 - Susan Mazer, expert on the sound environment in healthcare settings and President and Co-founder of Reno, NV based Healing HealthCare Systems, will be presenting Can You Hear the Wellness? On March 23rd at the 2010 Environments for Aging Conference taking place March 21-23 in San Diego, CA. The session will focus on the sound environment and how it can positively support the wellness of hearing impaired long-term care residents.
Ms. Mazer's presentation will identify design practices that optimize participation and cognition of a aging population. She will also focus on noise as it relates to falls, agitation, and isolation, and will provide strategies for fostering collaboration between designer, architect, and the organization
"Many times facilities that are designed for the elderly do not take into consideration the nature of hearing impairment as it effects cognitive decline, risks of falls, and overall quality of life for elders," says Mazer. "The whole sound environment must be considered, both acoustics and practice, to best support those that are hearing impaired."
Environments for Aging is a comprehensive three-day conference, during which attendees and presenters will explore and share new ideas for creating attractive and functional living environments that meet the unique needs of our aging population.
